Tariffs are the ostensible cause of the current market sell-off, but it's just possible this is a distraction. The real cause just might be a credit crisis that a market crash can actually ease, by causing interest rates to fall enough to bail out over-leveraged financial institutions. Maybe we'll have a "Black Monday" and we'll learn a major bank is in trouble, but whatever happens, I don't think tariffs explain all of it. |

All this nonsense with the stock market is minor news…maybe they have one story about it per day where the mainstream media won’t shut up about it. These folk regularly ask, “What news is the media ignoring when they focus entirely on ______?” Every US bank closed for insolvency is done on a Friday late afternoon because the weekend is a slow news cycle with few people watching…so it doesn’t get the coverage it deserves. By Monday, it’s replaced with more current events. Every political “crisis” usually runs cover for something the average person really should be more concerned about…but is left out of the news cycle.

It'll be interesting to see how long bitcoin, an "asset" without any visible means of support other than "faith", can resist the bearish tsunami that's rolling over the financial landscape now. Comparisons to the Tulip Mania are not unreasonable. |

I imagine they will be looking to pick up those 12,000 Jeep Cherokee sales a year in Canada and other places smarting from the madness. The wheels of global commerce will continue to turn, with India and China being the big benefactors.

The current model range were also ageing a fair bit and the sales of Jags compared to Land Rovers for JLR are a small proportion, and don’t make them much money. |

But, I'm old enough to have gone to college when they taught "Comparing Economic Systems". You know, Capitalism, Socialism & Communism. It was also during the early Thatcher era. So, yeah, protectionist economics don't have a great track record. Just ask the folks in Venezuela.

At the risk of repeating something I may have already said, the foundation for what's about to happen was laid in 2008 during the "Great Financial Crisis" (more correctly, the "Great Financial Ponzi"), when central banks used a mortgage "crisis" (that anyone with half a brain could see coming miles away) to print more money in a decade and a half than was printed in the entire history of the US. |
