in planning » Peak District or?

In 2023, I toured the south of England. This relatively short trip became an unforgettable one and this is due to all the tips I received on this site.

Now I want to come to your side again and my eye has fallen on the area of the Peak District.
I want to spend about 10 days here (the first two weeks of June) and I hope there are people here who can provide me with ideas and tips.
This time no round trip but about 8 days in a B&B.
Who knows in which town or village I can best stay overnight and from there I can drive the various routes.
What places should I definitely visit, are there nice roads and quaint villages.

Apart from the date, nothing is fixed yet, I am also open to other areas that might be even more beautiful.

Same. I would pass through the peaks to go further north. It’s is the busiest national park due to the cities surrounding it. You could put together a good day route for it, and then go on the Yorkshire Dales and the North Pennines, or even the Lake District.

Fourthed. I live at the edge of the Peak District myself, and while there's certainly some great riding to be had there, if I were you I'd get myself over to North Wales after a couple of days based in Buxton!

Thanks for the ideas. I didn't realise the Peak District is not that big. Further north like the Lake District and North Pennines might then seem just a bit too far for the number of days I have available. That in turn is another reason to come towards England in the future.

I think Buxton would indeed be a nice place for the first 2 days and then continue towards Wales (Snowdonia?) and stay there for a few days. And then to finish off with a few days in Cardiff/Bath before driving back to the Netherlands.

Mid Wales is my favourite place to go to spend a full day on a bike from home, from the border to the coast and from Llandovery up to Machynlleth. Better in my opinion than Snowdonia and Brecon, mainly because it is less busy.

This is all very subjective and different writers will have their own ideas.

The Peak District is a very attractive place to walk and visit, but it is small and tucked between busy Manchester and Sheffield. Buxton would be a good centre for the Peak District and you have many Stately Homes around, also Crich Tramway Museum. But it is not the best place to explore on two wheels if you have eight days.

Do you want to ride perhaps 200 miles per day and just stop for cafes and views? If in England then this is my suggestion: If you stayed somewhere in the area of Kirkby Stephen, Jedburgh, Leyburn or Barnard Castle you have four compass directions and beautiful areas to head to: 1) west to the Lake District; 2) north to the Cheviots/Northumberland/Hadrians Wall; 3) east to the North York Moors; and 4) south to the Yorkshire Dales/Pennines. Get there each day on the main roads (50 miles each way) and then have routes pre-loaded to your Garmin (or whatever) to pick all the small roads that make a 100 mile circular exploration of that area. Those places I mention will all have tourist pubs and cafes, and you won't come across any big urban zones.

The North York Moors 'square' between Pickering, Scarborough, Whitby and Stokesley is probably the best for small road riding. You could spend the whole eight days there and have a different 50-80 mile route each day. There is a Vintage Motorcycle group that does just that each year.

If you want to tour Wales, and it is very nice (with others here more experienced than me to comment), that could be a separate trip on another date.
