That sounds like a limitation that the BMW importer have. Here in UK despite Brexit you can make a configured factory order and it takes about 3 months to arrive at the dealers typically. But dealers will also have some stock on the showroom floor and in their distribution network, plus ex-demo bikes and used stock etc. |

The dealer gave me the information needed to track the bikes. In the the US it's limited on the options we can pick but we were able to pick color, Sport seat and rear rack. We could have ordered things like option 719 wheels and other option 719 pieces. It was also possible to order a base model.

The last time I special-ordered a BMW model was when I ordered my F650GS without ABS, in June of 2008. It arrived in September 2008, a month after the dealer demos arrived. Interestingly, my bike arrived at the BMWNA warehouse in New Jersey a couple of weeks before the dealer bikes arrived, but apparently it got put on the back of the truck and took a while to get to the West Coast.

In 4 years of ownership, I saw an R1200RS and R1250RS on the road other than mine. I also tried to sell mine before trading it in and got very little interest. Given that trading it in saved me sales tax and I could remove and resell the farkles, it was a good deal for me.
