Key fob not working after battery replacement

Hi all, I've gotten the 50% battery life tft notification a few weeks back and given it's been 2 years and I was replacing the battery in our car fobs I changed out the battery in the BMW fob too.
Year-round riding enthusiast i.e. seasonal motorcycle popsicle.

I've not had a problem with the fob working after a battery change. I have had a problem with intermittent battery contact due to one of the retaining tabs breaking off on the 8 year old fob. Fixed by adding a plastic spacer to hold the battery in place.

Some batteries (such as Duracell I think) come with a special coating that gives the battery a very bitter taste to prevent children swallowing them. It prevents the battery working in things like AirTags. It could be that so try cleaning the battery with a little alcohol based cleaner. |

Took the battery out put the fob next to the sensor in the wheel arch and it responded, put the battery back in no-dice. I noticed it worked with the fob open and when pressing the battery with my finger. OK - took the battery out again figured the pins might be bent or something and I could put a small piece of electrical tape above the battery to push it in. That's when I noticed that on the bottom/negative of the battery I didn't look at there's a small sticker the 1/2 the diameter of the battery advertising the bitter coating to prevent babies from eating the batteries... The sticker is just the perfect circle to cover up the area where the battery interacts with the pins. And this is the only battery in the pack that had the sticker. Also Duracell so internet points for Becksy again. Ah the small things..
