Unseasonable high pressure, dry with still air and 14C/57F means it was a pleasant enough day go for a ride.

Good for you, getting out on the bike, wessie. Funny how weather that would keep me off the bike is almost "normal" for you UK riders. Anyway, it's rainy here, the RS has been washed, waxed, fuel-stabilized, plugged into the battery tender and covered with beach towels (in the garage)...it would take a seriously sunny, warm day to undo all that and go for a ride now. Right now the forecast for the hills is...snow. |

I did use the heated grips and swap from the lined Alpinestars gloves to the thicker Rukka ones. Usually by now I am using my heated insoles at least. If it is dry, I like to go for a ride on Xmas day. The roads are so quiet but you can't get fish and chips at the seaside!

One of the best rides I've ever had, though, was on April 28,2020, in the midst of the "pandemic". I rode 300 miles, total round-trip, from my home up into the mountains and back. There were almost no other vehicles on the roads, the roads were dry, but up in the mountains there was 4 feet of snow on the roadsides. The sky was piercingly blue (remember, there was no air travel going on then) and the temperatures were in the 60's and 70's F. It was almost surreal how quiet it was and how beautiful. Probably never see anything like that again...it was like being the last human on earth, riding my S1000RR and being astounded by the snow-capped mountains and that sky...so vivid. "Pansy foo foo"...new one on me! |

It’s the last day in October and was going to SORN my bike (cancel the road tax) and cover it up for the winter, but the forecast is for some milder weather.

Yeah, I was a big user back in the day actually - [nerd alert] in fact my usenet claim to fame is that that I was responsible for setting up uk.d-i-y in around 1990 I suppose, and that group's still going too, I think. I wasn't riding in those days, but I did join UKRM briefly in around 2016 which is when I returned to bikes... I was looking for advice on what to buy, and someone suggested a VStrom 650, which is what I ended up with. Maybe that was you?!

It would be an ideal bike for the newbie or born again rider. 2016 was around the time when the number of regulars dropped as people switched to phones and tablets, which don't really do usenet. There is a busier, parallel Facebook group now.

Some are on Facebook, some are over on UKGSer and a few are seen face to face occasionally. Done a few trips with some of them. Sadly, earlier this year, Google switched off using Groups as a way to interact with usenet. They have left the archive but do not carry any updates or allow posting. That has reduced the number of regular users on UKRM.
