General topics » Tall Seat or Lowered Pegs?

Curious for those that have tried both. I want to open up the knee angle, and think the tall seat would also shorten reach at the same time. I find the stock seat on the low side, and the knee angle bothers me more than the reach. Opinions?

I have had the taller sport seat on both my RS1200's and find it very comfortable. Even this time of year, limited winter use, it is no problem retraining my old bones into position. Two hours yesterday in cold sunshine was easy and even worth the time cleaning the salt off afterwards.

Fitted the tall seat option from new as it suits a 32 inch inside leg and very kind to the knees all day comfortable.

BUT the effect was to lift the body enough to change the angle or wrists over bars notably compared to the standard seat I used on test ride this was rectified by fitting LSL R 1200 style bars for perfect comfort.

BUT this induced air turbulence around the neck and elbows rectified by taking Boxer boys advice and fitting a smaller wind shield

BUT the shield is so good I no longer get a cool breeze over my hands in the summer counter intuitive to what you’d expect, cured by Knox vented gloves.

Well that’s most Forum topics coved, oh I use Silkolene Pro 5w-40 oil in the engine. Full house 😃

All part of the fun and surprising how much effect what on the face of it would seem to be a small change but well worth experimenting and trying all options as I’ve spent many 10 hour days on this bike with no unwanted side effects.

Standard bars.

Highest Sport Seat.

Lower pegs with MV brackets. But they throw your feet out and take a bit of getting used to.

Snazzy 2nd hand gear lever moved the lever exactly onto the right spot on my boot, but I stayed with OEM brake lever as I don’t use it often.

Chopped screen to reduce the buffeting and let the breeze take the weight off my wrists.

And - my custom rear shock has a 10mm lift too.

And - a Cool Cover string vest on the seat cushion lets me ride all day comfortable.

ps - I’m only 5’8” (173) with 32” inseam (US term) in my boots.

I use the sport seat and the BMW HP footpegs set to their lowest position, and still have a cushion on top of the seat - adding perhaps 15-20mm extra height. Despite the height I still feel comfortable with standard bars. I have a 34” inside leg ( but shortish body) and a stiff hip, hence the desire to alleviate a tight posture.
I haven’t had the nerve to cut down the screen but I am sure Boxerboy55 has a great smooth airflow with his set up.
