Any tips on installing the HP shift lever, specifically separating the ball joint?

Some sort of tiny pickle fork seems appropriate, but I don't have one and I'm trying to be delicate.

I fitted mine to my 1200 over 5 years ago. From memory there's a spring clip that needs to be removed to separate the ball joint. Fitting the HP set was an easy process.

Just had a look. I don't know if the 1200 and the 1250 are the same but if they are and the lever just has a threaded hole you can just unscrew from one lever and screw into the other without separating the ball joint.

Separating the R1200RS ball joint requires no tools, just a finger nail!!!
The stainless little clip is just a 'circle on a stick' if that makes sense (watching england football) BOLX - missed the second goal!!!
So ........ feel around the outer joint and find a splinter of metal, it unclips to allow the rose joint to come apart, then just fill with grease on re-assembly.

There’s a felt pad on each joint too that can be oiled.

I figured out the clip and got it installed. Pretty clever design on BMW's part.

My next issue is getting it adjusted. I have the pegs in their lowest position and they're a nice change. I have pretty long legs (34" inseam) and I like the extra legroom. However, now I'm having a bit of a problem shifting. The issue is that my boot seems to be hitting the ear on the side stand and my toe isn't getting a good purchase on the shifter. I'm missing shifts and I think it's because my foot is forced out due to the ear on the side stand.
