Electronics » Where is the horn?

Does anyone know where the horn is on a 2020 R1250RS? I want to fit a decent horn, but cannot find the existing one. I know that it sounds ridiculous, but it would normally be near the front of the bike, but I cannot find the thing.

Can’t help you as I have the 1200 model, but I do recall comments that the horn is far less accessible on the 1250 model so you are likely not alone struggling to locate it!

I'm in your boat as well. I have a soundbomb to install, but ram out of nice weather and the urge to keep removing side panels, covers, etc.. I will re-attempt in the spring as I don't have a garage. I will just go old school and beep the horn and look.

The horn is located behind the radiator, within the tubing supporting the steering head.

It is held by 1 bolt, and that is accessible (after all body work is removed) from the front left side.

However, to get to it, you need to remove the bodywork, remove the airbox, remove the petrol tank (not forgetting to disconnect the battery). It is maybe 3x harder to access than the horn was on the R1200RS.

Once you get to it, and remove it (by fiddling it out the left side of the bike (and you can't get access from the top because there is a metal gusset welded in which blocks access that way) you can unplug the horn, use a Nippy Norman's adapter, and wire in a relay. My relay is mounted on the same captive nut that held the horn.

My dual horns mount slightly differently on the 1250 than on the 1200, and in my view the mount is better on the 1250. They mount of the frame bosses behind the radiator on each side but are mounted "up" from the frame boss rather than hanging "down" as they were on the 1200. They fit between the radiator and motor. If anyone is interested I can do a more detailed outline.

The standard horn is hopeless. No one cares when the hear it. My RS sounds like a car, and that is more attention grabbing.

Seems like it'd be a lot easier to get an Ezcan and a Soundbomb and add it as an additional horn, leaving the original in place.

I plan on doing that this winter but I need to figure out where to mount the Soundbomb.

I removed the lefrt hand panels then accessed the plug on the horn with long nosed pliers and a thin screwdriver to release it. Tthen I left the oem horn in place connected my wiring adaptor I had removed from my xr1000, then fitted the sound bomb mini else where,took around an hour in total.
