Hi guys, anybody have any experience with the System 7 helmet, I need to replace my BMW Street X after the crash.

For the guys who do not know I was rear ended by an pick-up about 6 weeks ago, the guy was on his cell phone and when he looked up traffic was standing still and he used me to come to a stop. Needless to say bike written off and I had the chance to experience my local hospital service first hand.

On that same note I can highly recommend Alpinestars gear and Xkulcha riding jeans, as my doctor said, if it was not for me wearing full gear, including back protector, I would not have been this lucky. The BMW Street X did an awesome job, scuffed but not cracked or lost integrity.

I have a System 7. Whether or not I can help depends on what you would like to know. I had to move from a 58/59 in System 6 to 60/61 to get the right fit.

Is the Butcher Boys restaurant still in Umhlanga?

Thankfully you seem to have no long term injuries. I give you my best wishes and hopes. No much, I suppose, but it is something!

Hi Yoda, yes Butcher Boys are still there. On the System 7 the fit and finish looks very good, how is the comfort and noise levels. The Street X was very comfy but noisy. I only test fitted the System 7 at the dealer, it was comfortable and I like all the features. I have experienced with some other helmets they become a pain after an hour or so riding even though they were comfortable when test fitting, what is your experience with it. Do you have a coms system fitted?

Thanks Aussie, the broken leg is healed but it left me with a bit of an limp that I am sorting out. Can not wait to be back on the new bike in 10 weeks time.

Hi Hein, yes I have the comms system fitted, a slighter neater way of stowing the usb connection than on the System 6. The longest ride I have done with it so far was about 3 hours, I find it comfortable but just as noisy as the System 6 once the wind speed gets above about 50mph.

The main source of noise generation appears to be the side fittings where the visor attaches. I don't like wearing ear plugs, and am even considering an RT as a solution - I tried a Nolan last year and found that noisy also and very "oppressive" - the chin guard felt very close to my face. Sold it straight away.

I haven't even tried to remove the chin piece on the 7 so can't comment on that yet - although the helmet is a lot lighter without it I noticed in the shop.
