Electronics » Nav v cradle gone kaput.

Another problem for your perusal.

After much head scratching, internet searching and forum members input, I finally got my Nav v tou route perfectly.
Great, apart from 70miles in the unit turned itself off and kept trying to boot up , go dim and switch itself off (with the ignition on).
If I remove the unit from the cradle it works fine ,until I attach it to the bike and turn on the ignition, then it tries to turn off, in effect, the reverse of normal.
It's been working fine in the 3 weeks that I have owned the bike.

I did consider that the power hub I fitted ,using a trigger from the live wire to the din socket, may have caused the fault, although it's been ok for the last couple of weeks. Just to rule it out, I removed the fuse from the power hub but the problem still persists.

Any ideas?

I had an issue with my nav V when the left bar switch assembly worked loose and it actually went down through the menu and set screen to zero % display.
I guess it just set an earth which took out the screen - on or off the bike it looked like a blank screen but was just really low resolution
Nav V ok off the bike, back at 100% display and ok when connected in cradle but within 1 mile I lost the display.
Check nothing is loose on the left bar, wheel or cruise control.
Mine was sorted at the dealership with a new set of switch ger.

Unable to edit my post but was adding I also had cradle fitting issue - clean pins with wd40 (not enough room for duct tape!)
My nav had partial operation and no wheel response which cleared on a clean and refit.

Do you have the latest software installed?

Also, do you use a helmet intercom? If so, make sure you switch that on before you switch the ignition on (powering up the sat nav). I've had this before and if I power up the helmet comm after the sat nav, the nav plays silly buggers.

Dave,
That sounded exactly like my problem, with the low resolution, plus my left hand switchgear is a little loose, don't know how it tightens as I can't see any screws, will take a look in the manual, thing is, my mate came round with his gs and we swapped navs. Mine wouldn't work on his bike and his functioned correctly on mine.
So it's the nav unit. I have cleaned the connectors, removed and refitted the battery and sim card, all to no avail.
It had the latest map update a couple of weeks ago.
?????
P.S, the tft on my mates gs is fantastic.

Update,
performed a hard reset, no improvement, but I have discovered that if I try to connect to the computer or plug it in to a usb charger, the unit goes in to the cycle of bmw motorrad screen then switches off and starts over again.
So it appears that it will not accept an incoming charge.

It works ok when removed from an external power source.

If all else fails, Garmin will exchange your Nav V for a reconditioned unit (was about £100 I think when I did it)
