And of course, I have my phone, roadside service, and credit card if I ever need them.... (I'm knocking on wood as I write this. Kein ayin hora, etc..) The comment about the motorcycle tire from the website above was well written, and an excerpt follows: ...I’m a motorcyclist and have recently noted claims by motorcycle repair kit retailers that 1 or 2 16g Co2 cartridges will inflate average sized motorcycle tires. Those claims aren’t at all reasonably consistent with my bicycling/business experiences. I took four AirKiss 16g cartridges out of inventory and tested them on my tubeless 180/55×17 rear motorcycle tire that specs at 42 psi. Those four 16g cartridges (64g of Co2) produced 22psi leading me to extrapolate that that up to an amount of 122 grams (or 8 16g cartridges) to fully inflate the tire. When I later applied all the actual metrics to your approach and formulas, the result was 132 grams. That’s pretty close! Thank you again.

I figure it will take a minimum of 6 or 8 of the standard CO2 cartridges to inflate a rear tire to around 36 psi, based upon my limited experience. One thing you really need to do is to wear gloves while using CO2 cartridges to inflate anything. They get really, really cold. Cold enough to cause your fingers to stick to the metal case.

I use the CO2 cartridges to assure that the tire seats on the rim, then I top it off with my auxiliary hand pump. It's one of those small high-pressure models favored by cyclists and takes up a very small space in my tail pack.

Try to keep the toolkit as small as possible, so just a torx-screwdriver, a piece of electrical tubing with duct tape, vulc tape, zipties and front wheel socket. Stop&go kit+ co2 filler kit. Screwdriver+stop&go under the saddle, rest in the small tail bag. I went a ride on my R1150RS the other day and the handlebar joint became loose. Most disconcerting! Fortunately, this bike came with a decent BMW tool bag with a pretty comprehensive tool kit. Soon got the problem fixed. The bike also came with a puncture repair kit as well. All fitted in a space in the tail section. Enough space to also fit a first aid kit (just in case). |
