And compared to calling a recovery service how much easier would it really be to remove a wheel and then somehow haul it to a tyre fitting place (and particularly if it's the front wheel - ok, less likely - somehow chocking up the bike meanwhile and leaving it safely unattended while you do this?) From notes above, I safely assume that those of us who travel rural America and Australia carry more for tools than folks in the south of England. If nothing else, we can entertain ourselves while waiting the hours it might take for a rescue vehicle to arrive.

as I don't know what to do with the tools even if I had them I have one tool which is the breakdown cover telephone number in my phone and a card with the number in my wallet. If I loose my phone and wallet I am buggered!!!

I use the Hornig expandable tail bag. It holds my puncture kit, rainsuit, and glove covers when not expanded. I like having my waterproofs and flat repair kit easily available. When you need that stuff, unloading it from the deep, dark confines of a saddlebag always seems to result in lost items. I also bring along a small, BMW-specific toolkit, but since it is less likely to be used on the roadside I put it at the bottom of the right pannier liner. Tools are nice to have at the end of the day, when I wipe the bike down and check for loose fasteners. “I would rather be ashes than dust!" ~ Jack London |

Unhelpful, but still like the small tailbag. I have a small Nelson rigg tailbag with tire gauge, tools, tire plugger, extra fob battteries, a flashlight and still have room leftover for a sweatshirt. |
