I've decided that my R1200RS is just too heavy and I've decided to look for something lighter. The S1000R is a possibility though I suspect there's a good chance it won't be a BMW. Don't get me wrong, I think the RS is great bike, probably the best overall bike I have ever owned but I just prefer lighter machinery.

Not trying to sway your opinion at all, of course. As a matter of fact I can within a hair's breadth of buying my second bike this weekend (2017 Kawasaki Z900) which is about as different from the RS and much lighter too. Bike had a deposit by the time I got to the seller. Still playing with the idea of this bike though. Good luck looking for that idea bike.

Regarding the weight issue, personally I found recently that moving up from a somewhat lighter 650 (Suzuki Vstrom), the RS was actually easier to move around (both riding and pushing!) presumably on account of its very low centre of gravity. Just saying that there's more to 'weight' than that the number of pounds in the specs!

Thanks guys...FOR NOT being critical and telling me I'm an idiot, but for being helpful!! :) As far as weight -yes, I realize that the CG has a lot to do with the "feel" of more or less weight but weight is weight when it comes to moving a bike around/responding to control input. My 9T is the same configuration as my RS but much lighter and easier to "horse around" for that reason.

Beautiful fit and finish, lovely job with the retro styling throwback to the Z1, and the tuned exhaust is reportedly superb. Where the Z900 is more of the hooligan with no tech aids other than ABS, the RS version - which looks quite different - is also exciting to ride but has more adjustability in the suspension and traction control in addition to the ABS. It is 472# which is 9# heavier than the Z900 at 463#.
