RE: I think I'm leaving the fold... - 3

I love my RS and it is a keeper but I am racking so much kilometers on this machine that in 3 years, IMG_2228.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)after the end of warranty, it will probably show 90K kms. I bought a used Buell xb12s 2009 with a low 18000 kms on the clock. I know this bike pretty well after owning one in 2008. Easy maintenance, no valves adjustment, belt drive, light at 395 lbs easy to move around, tons of torque and 100 hp. I want to reduce the mileage on the RS by riding the Buell for those 200 kms day ride. I will get it ready this winter with new tires, brake pads and probably change the belt. So far, there are still parts available at some HD dealers and on the open market. That won't stop me from riding the RS but if I can reduce the mileage on it by maybe 12k kms a year. I would have accomplish my goal. And the pleasure of riding a very different motorcycle.

If you really like riding the RS, why refrain from riding it? There's nothing that can happen to it with wear that can't be restored to original condition.

Two different subjects - I was just responding to the comment that the poster loves the bike but doesn't want to put too many miles on it. If I liked a bike that much I would just ride it till it needed restoration or replacement, regardless of how soon that happened.

I have said many times that the RS is probably the best bike I have ever owned but my preference is for lighter-weight bikes. I need to ride some other current bikes of the style I like to decide if the lighter weight offsets the things I like about the BMW. As I said in another post, I may get back on the RS when we return to TX and wonder what I was thinking. ;)

That's interesting, I am about to join the fold for the exact reason you're leaving. If you want your RS to feel like a ballerina, ride my FJR (700lbs) in heavy traffic on a hot day in my neck of the woods. Brutal I say!

I rented an RS a few months back and found that even though it isn't as light as my KTM 690, it has a nice low center of gravity like my old oilhead RS. It was confidence inspiring, even for a midget like me (5'7").
I have been test riding a lot of bikes, and not many have the great "manageable" weight the RS does. I'll be keeping my KTM and Bonneville, just because I don't think one bike should have to be all things.
It's a luxury having 3, but 4 would be nice, too. Like a nice classic of some kind, Norton, Matchless, AJS...
