In terms of looks and form factor it certainly looks like a sport bike. In terms of performance the XR is certainly faster etc but it does not have the sport bike look / form factor. A better argume nt might be, if the RS is a Sport bike then maybe the F 800 GT can also be classified similarly since they look the same but maybe the performance is not as high so it was relegated to the Tour category.

Over here, the consumer is much different. For one thing, motorcycle to many means Harley. I still think that if it were pushed more and was more visible it would sell more and that in turn might have a positive impact on supply. I regularly visit 2 of the 4 dealerships in the Greater Houston area ... if nothing else for a ride on a Saturday morning, or for some free food.  A third dealership is a little too far and through city-only riding so I go there less frequently, and the fourth I don't do business with. But the story is pretty much the same iNone of them have RSs on the floor, although occasionally one may make a surprise appearance, and then it is gone in a flash. Always a nice sleection of GSs and GSAs and other bikes. Even scooters are on the floor. One dealer has R1200Rs more often than the other but that one does not have nearly the same foot traffic as the other, where I bought mine. When I bought mine in Oct 2015 it was the only one on the floor, I believe.

The dealer told me that it was probably, the one with the most accessories they ever sold. Riders here consider it to be a Sports bike and they want it plain and simple. |

Here's something to fill the vacuum (ie. the complete lack of any news of an MY19 RS, not even colours). Nothing like a shallow baseless rumour to fill a void...interesting vfr1200 is on the list... |

But it does state a new BMW R1250RS 2019.

I would be happy to let the GS and RT owners work out the bugs in the new engine before it get installed into the R and RS versions.

I read a comment that the current WC engine valve covers were designed to have enough room to accomodate VVT. I haven't seen what's under a valve cover and don't know what extra bits are needed for VVT. But if true this would be good news for lean angle demons if it means the new engine will be no wider than current. |
