£829 for 3 years or £1199 for 5 years, for the boxers.

I don't think that's actually too bad (unless you like to do your own fettling) and a good way to plan your spend in advance. Didn't see valve clearance check on the list though.

Anyone gone for it?

make sure you can use any BMW dealer - never buy a service package tied to one retailer as they may get taken over or go bust

personally, I would make the same payment into a savings account if budgeting is important

I've had the 18k service and 24k service this year on my RS and that came to over £1100, including new brake pads front and rear at 18K. I can't help thinking that the BMW dealers see us as a captive audience to milk come service time. If I buy another BMW, I think I would spring for the 3 year deal, but I suspect there is a Triumph in my future when I come to eventually change. 10k service intervals on the Trumpet sound quite tempting.

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape

Annual service needed if you do not cover 10k - had one 2 weeks ago at a Triumph dealer for the Explorer. Cost just under £200. About the same as a 6k service on the RS.

Note: it is only the 1200cc triples that have 10k service intervals. I think the twins and 800/1050 triples are still 6k/1year

This package does look tempting, especially as I haven't yet paid for any service (including the initial run-in check).

I suppose that the more you ride your bike, the better value it is as you get more of the services covered.

To cover points raised earlier:
- valve clearance check is included
- you can use any BMW dealer

What happens if you want to sell the bike within the 3/5 years (or <cough> have it written off or stolen) and don't necessarily want another BMW - do you just lose the outstanding sum?

There is no refund once you have paid up. The package goes with the bike so in theory that increases the resale value.

If it is written off or stolen... well, I suspect this is what BMW is counting on to make (more) money. Your service contract would not apply to a replacement bike.
