Well, that certainly doesn't look good. I sure am glad that never happened to me - especially as my bike is now out of warranty.

Y es it is a mechanical part and yes it can fail, but several people on these forums has had some issue with forks leaking to some degree and many have had seals and/or forks replaced. Since this sample size is likely smaller than the set of all RSs on the road, there is a great probability that there are many more failures than we have seen on these fora. Starting to look like a garbage component to me, and is certainly no fun for someone who has had the aggravation of wasting time at the dealer to get it diagnosed and then repaired, even if under warranty.

They have been building suspension units for motorcycles and likely other vehicles for many years. You would think that they would have fork seal design figured out by now.
