Hi all!

Mojohand from Virginia. I ride a '14 FJR ES and a '16 Speed Triple R. Thinking of reducing complexity and going back to one bike...and the RS seems to be a sweet spot. So thanks for all the great info here.

You won't regret pulling that trigger, mojo. There's loads of interesting ideas, friendly suggestions, and experiences on the site as well. And, it would be nice to have further representation from the Commonwealth. Stick.

Hi Mojohand. I am moving from a 14 FJR ES - the fast red beauty - to an RS. Picking the bike up on Friday. The 640+ lbs was finally enough. The RS lower CG, and 520 lbs is a major factor. I will send a comparison report.

Hello Mojohand and everyone - so here is my early comparison to the FJR after about 300 miles. 50+ miles are 2-up. I am 5'7" / 165lbs. Its a different animal altogether - surprise! The FJR is smoother overall and as advertised if you are transcontinental touring or 2-up for any length of time is the bike of choice. The engine just wants to rev as you know. But non-slab, simply enjoying a ride and the ease of handling, the RS is better. I was hoping the RS suspension would be the equal of the FJR, but my impression is that it is better. Limited time trying all the modes, but taking her over some similar bad roads, the RS was more composed. I did not expect that. When we talk of riding bikes, being in the movie vs. watching the movie, the RS is more in the movie than the FJR. Road feel is outstanding, and a couple sweeper runs had me easily matching or exceeding my FJR pace because it handles more easily. The most surprising difference was handling in the rain. I don't have previous experience with Roadtec Z8s, so I don't know how much is bike or tire, but this was the most planted in the rain I have ever felt. Some torrential downpours on Friday between JAX and SAV, over an hour in it, and I was basically smiling at the steadiness of the bike. FJR always felt a little less planted on very wet roads - but again this could all be tires. For me as well is the slow maneuvering advantages. I was not able to flat foot the FJR, and rough ground - led astray at times by my GS buddies looking for that 'shortcut'... - could be very problematic for me. On the RS I am not nearly as concerned getting into those kinds of situations - again the 520 vs 640 lbs / CG difference. Wind protection is not as good but still just fine, even without the electric whizbang. You will never roll-on like the FJR, probably its finest quality, but the RS can accomplish everything necessary including passing that duck-line of Harleys we encounter in the twisties. The RS is a bike to just jump on and go, more easily than the FJR. So as we all know it comes down to style of riding and what you want the bike to do, and go from there. I am extremely happy I made this choice. Good luck with yours!
