on the way up to Scotland I decided to break the journey just north of Preston by staying at Ferraris Country Hotel at Longridge. A very pleasant hotel in the countryside with loads of outdoor dining space, some of it covered.

This map shows riding spread over 2 days as I rode to Bentham before riding across the humorously named Moor Cock to our hotel.

I then rode the middle segment with one of the group and @PlacidoD - Chris led us over some roads he was familiar with, from out hotel, over Quernmore and onto Sedbergh. We had refreshments in this lovely town and then Chris turned homeward whilst we rode over the Pennines on some spectacular roads to our Annan base.

Weather was lovely but it got warmer as we approached Scotland so we were glad to get to the base hotel for some refreshing beers.

Good to have met you Dave. Sorry I could not travel further with you but as you know I had a short notice call for an opera chorus rehearsal Sunday p.m. Otherwise I would have stuck with you to Carlisle and then turned for home

"Moor Cock". I wondered where you meant. I just know it as the Slaidburn to High Bentham road. Lots of single track and gravel on the riding line in places. For anybody else heading up that way if you turn right at High Bentham and then pick up the A65 going North the Goat Gap Café at Newby directly at roadside is a good place to stop. On the A65 going South you could try the Elaine's Tearooms at Feizor. Both make for a good lunch stop.
