They have some really good roads and nice scenery. Of course, if you are interested in Roman history you will have a number of interesting sights along Hadrian's Wall. |

With this method you can leave luggage at the base and travel light. Hotels can be sparse in some parts so just rocking up in a village may find you without many options other than the place at 200 pounds a night. |

Ullapool isn't a bad place to spend the night, plenty f food and hotel options but not sure on prices. Sure to be some Gasthaus options too.

just a bit further north of Ullapool is Scourie. I stayed in the Scourie Hotel which was quite pleasant - old world charm, popular with anglers. I took the half board option and the food was very good in a traditional kind of way. Fish course, trout with almonds was lovely. |

I would thoroughly recommend this place for a couple of days. There are some good restaurants and pubs in the town within walking distance. You can do the loop to Cape Wrath and Tongue from there returning via Lairg, a good day's ride on great roads. I would avoid July and August when the schools are on holiday. |
