Hi Boxerboy,

I like the Hornig bracket, but with a price that is 15 times more than my aluminum pipe. I’ll live with drawbacks for now 😉 . Perhaps this winter I’ll buy the Hornig bracket or try to design another bracket that position the Nav a bit higher so that it doesn’t block the view of the speedometer 😊

Finally, Blackshirt, why not route the GPS cable behind the clocks to make the finish a little neater, you just need to release it from the rubber cable tie - 30 seconds of a job and it looks great!

I have the Isotta one and as you said they are the same. Much better than the Hornig. And for less money.
The Hornig looks “home made” and you have to adjust other things to make it work without fouling on something. The Isotta bracket has much less vibration.

I've just removed the Hornig mount and put the RAM mount back on the clutch lever. I couldn't stand the vibrating wobbling bouncing sat nav any more.

I haven’t suffered any vibration or wobbling on my Satnav with the Hornig mount - that is until I fitted a new horn which required me to unfasten the Hornig mount and when I put it back together the vibration started. What I then realised was that it’s caused by not lowering the flat bars (with elongated slots) as far as they can go so that the horizontal steel rod sits onto the screen arms (for which Hornig provide 2 small black adhesive cushions), once lowered so that the bar rests in this position, the vibration is negligible. Maybe you don’t want to waste any more time on the set-up Paul, but I think this is the means to cure your problem.

Jonas, I liked the simplicity of your post so much that I purchased a 3' piece of aluminum tubing of similar spec to yours and fitted it this evening. I did, however enlarge the inner diameter too much and the mount moves too freely. I stopped for the night to ponder some possibilities to add a little friction to reduce movement. I have a feeling it will be necessary at some point, so why build another now. I have the stock windshield and there is clearance in both high and low positions with the shield mounted in the upper screws. I also have Helibar bar backs to reduce reach. At my sitting angle, the seeming worthless, analog speedo is compromised at above a ton. As you mentioned, the Nav gives you speed digitally which I prefer anyway. Once I've figured the tensioner, I'll repost. Let me know if you've already devised a solution. I really like this position for the Nav. It's a world of difference. Thanks for your insight. Stick.

I’m on a tour to the west coast of Sweden with my bike and I have ridden approximately 600km (1000 miles) over the last few days on both large and small roads and I have not experienced any loss of friction or vibration from the mounting position, it is still rock solid.

One idea I had if I lost friction was to take off the pivoting bracket and drill a 1mm hole through the bracket just outside where the spring washer is, (should be enough to do that on one side) and do the same on the pipe and them run a split/cotter pin through to prevent the pipe from rotating. Another and perhaps even simpler solution could be to put the pipe end in a vise and gently squeeze the end a little so it becomes ever so slightly oval which should also improve the friction? Let me know how it goes.

I absolutely love the new position of the Nav, it made all the difference to move it up from the stock location. I can’t understand what BMW was thinking putting it so low 🤔

Jonas, maybe a dumb question but how did you actually install the bar? Did you "force/prise" it in with the circlips still in place? If not, how did you replace the circlips with the bar installed?

Ray, not to answer for how Jonas did his installation, but I removed the E-clips to spread the windshield pivot mount apart. I didn't try and force the tube into place. With the windshield removed its not hard to get the clips back in place with needle nose pliers. Drape a towel under your work area. You WILL drop something small! The specs for my tubing here in the States were .37"id, .50"od and the wall thickness was 0.65" by 3'; I picked it up from Grainger, item # 4NRY7, $14. Stick.
