My name is Bill and I live in Newcastle, NSW and some of the week in East Melbourne. My R1200RS is in Newcastle. I have been a long-time BMW owner.

I mainly ride these days out in the mountains or valleys to the West and North East of Newcastle (Putty Road, Bylong Valley, Thunderbolts Way etc).

I recently traded in my 2016 R1200RS for a 2018 model for the following reasons:

1. The 2016 bike had a clunky gearbox. My 1978 R100S has a very smooth gearbox by comparison although not as much fun to ride.

2. I could cope with the 2016 bike but then recently BMW Australia offered dramatic discounts on new bikes (as a result of the German factory having production and export problems to Australia and dealers were struggling with lack of stock in the smaller, high volume bikes).

3. The changeover was very attractive financially and the new bike has a very smooth gear box again - there were gearbox design changes between 2016 and 2017.

I have attached the photo of when I picked up the new bike.

Anyway, thanks to those who have got this list back up and running. It is a very useful resource for all of us I am sure.
