I was able to select "Dynamic" or "Road"; however the preload setting was stuck on "Two-up (with luggage)". The manual says to start the engine and then press and hold down button 1 (is that the one on the left with the suspension icon, or the 'Mode' one on the right?) until the required setting appears. Nothing happens though, with either of my button options. Is this the correct instruction or do I have a problem? Secondly, I played with the quick shifter today. I felt that about half of my clutchless gear changes, whether up or down, were really clunky - ie, gear changes that I'd have been embarrassed about if I'd made them manually using the clutch. I can't say that my experience tallies with the blurb in the manual which says there's "less relative movement between rider and passenger because the shift pauses are shorter". Could this be me doing something wrong, or again, do i have an issue? Thanks!

Suspension settings: you can change from dynamic to road on the move. To change preload you have to be at a standstill. Press the suspension icon button down for a couple of seconds, release and the display helmet icon will flash, you can now scroll through the settings by pressing the button and releasing each time. Don't pause once the icon is flashing as it does not give you long before it takes that setting. You should be able to hear and feel the stepper motors making the adjustments. |

However, when I hit the button again to get to "two helmets", I can easily feel the rear of the bike rise by about an inch. I might add that the system has been a little fussy lately and doesn't always seem to work when trying to preload with the engine running and at a stop. Last week I dropped by my BMW dealership and asked the service manager to give it a try. As I stood there he tried to change the preload setting with the engine off. The indicator blinked, but naturally nothing happened.  Then I suggested that he give it a try with the engine idling (in accordance with the owner's manual) and this time it worked. But now that my 3-year warranty expires this month, I am getting a little concerned about the operation of the ESA preload on my bike.

Re quickshifter, I have found that upshifts work best from 3rd gear up and when you are on the gas a bit, just keep the throttle steady while you shift. I still always use the clutch at low speeds around town. When downshifting make sure the throttle is fully closed and your revs aren't too high before changing down. Once you get used to it, the quickshifter is slick. |
